Dar es Salaam-DP World has contracted the Egyptian firm EDECS to construct seven cargo and material-handling yards at the Dar es Salaam port.

In its statement, EDECS reported that the company will deliver the design and construction of seven dedicated cargo and material handling yards at the Terminal 1 of the Dar es Salaam port with a combined area of 90,000 m², together with associated gates and supporting utilities.

The project involves physical infrastructure as well as supporting infrastructure for advanced digital yard management systems and cargo storage.

“In addition, EDECS is implementing a comprehensive port-wide fire protection network covering the entire port, including areas beyond the original project scope, as well as a port-wide high mast lighting system that enhances safety, security, and operational efficiency across all port facilities,” EDECS highlighted in its statement.

The report comes as DP World, which operates a large section of the Dar es Salaam port, reported an increase in container volume at the Dar port from 18,985 TEU by December 2024 to 36,899 TEU by December 2025. The company also reported its highest container volume in March, at 43,803 TEUs.
