Samia to grace BAWACHA’s International Women’s Day gathering
CHADEMA national chairperson Freeman Mbowe revealed on Sunday that President Samia Suluhu Hassan has agreed to a request asking her to be the guest of honour during the gathering to mark International Women’s Day organised by the party’s women’s wing BAWACHA.
Mr Mbowe made the revelation while speaking to journalists in Arusha to communicate what he had discussed with President Samia on Saturday.
“Recognizing the way we [CHADEMA] have been working with President Samia, we have decided to invite her to be guest of honour so that she can come and hear the women from the opposition,” Mr Mbowe said. “And the President has agreed to that request.”
International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 of every year to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality worldwide.
CHADEMA’s women, under their wing BAWACHA, are planning to mark the day in Kilimanjaro.
During his press conference on Sunday, Mr Mbowe said that President Samia has been meeting women under their various umbrella bodies and there is no problem if she does so to CHADEMA’s women.
“She should come and see and appreciate the good work done by CHADEMA’s women,” Mr Mbowe said. “Therefore, President Samia will be the guest of honour during that gathering and I’ll be there to welcome her.”
EABC applauds Samia for donating land to the EAC lobby group
The East African Business Council (EABC) has applauded President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s decision to donate and hand over land to the East African Community (EAC) lobby group, a press release announced over the weekend.
The Tanzanian leader handed over the title deed for a plot of land No.4/2 situated at Mateves Arusha containing twelve thousand three hundred and fifty-five (12,355) square meters (3 hectares) to EABC’s CEO John Bosco Kalisa.
The EABC will use the land to build its Headquarters in Arusha, which is also the headquarters of the East African Community (EAC).
EABC said in a statement that the land will help it in executing its mandate as the voice of the private sector in East Africa and driving the vision of a borderless East Africa for business and investment.
EABC’s mission is to advocate for a conducive business environment and promote sustainable private sector-driven growth in the EAC region.
Six elephants killed in 14 months in Ruaha National Park
Police are holding three suspected poachers in connection with the killing of six elephants in the Ruaha National Park between January 2022 and February 2023.
Godwell Ole Meing’ataki, assistant conservation commissioner and commanding officer for the Ruaha National Park, told Xinhua over the phone on Saturday that the suspected poachers were arrested on February 28, 2023, in the Iringa municipality by the Wildlife and Forest Force of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism in collaboration with the police.
The three suspects were found in possession of eight elephant tusks and six pieces of tusks, said Meing’ataki.
“This means that they killed six elephants of different ages worth 90,000 U.S. dollars,” Xinhua quoted Meing’ataki as saying.
Meing’ataki added that the suspects were also found in possession of one dagger, and a motor vehicle in which they ferried the tusks.
