The ongoing developments remind developing countries to increasingly integrate climate change into their development agenda rather than treating it as an emergency for which aid becomes inevitable.

Africa has leverage against the rich in two areas: the decarbonisation of Western economies, i.e., the green transition agenda, and the commodification of climate mitigation. In both, Africa plays a twofold, very critical role.

Carbon forestry projects must uphold effective inclusion of and benefits to local communities by ensuring that communities’ influence and decision power form a critical part.

The Summit was set to turn the climate crisis in Africa into an economic, if not a business opportunity.
