Police in Njombe confirmed on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, to arrest of two members of the CHADEMA party following the circulation of a viral video showing them restraining and interrogating a young man who identified himself as a CCM youth member.

“I am the CCM youth coordinator for Mgendela. What I have been doing is mobilizing people to come for registration,” said Antony Mtagawa while being questioned by two men who suspected him of manipulating the voter register in their area.

Police in Njombe confirmed the arrest of Emmanuel Raston Ngelime (44) and Obadiah Tedius Chogwa (47) for using force and assaulting Mtagawa.

“Antony Mtagawa is a CCM member and was serving as a party agent at that registration station because his colleague was unavailable. However, since he was not known by the CHADEMA agent, he was suspected of manipulating the voter register,” Njombe Regional Police Commander Mahamoud Banga explained.

“The two men attacked Mtagawa, causing him harm, but our investigation has shown that there was no issue of fake voter registration,” Banga added.

Police confirmed that the two men will be taken to court, and they urged the public not to take the law into their own hands but to follow legal procedures.
