Government Says 26.7 Million People Have Registered For The Upcoming Tanzanian Local Government Election

Government confirmed that a total of 26,769,995 voters had registered by the closing hours of the registration process. Of these, 13,033,988 were men, and 13,736,007 were women.

Just hours before the close of the local government voter registration period, the Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Mohamed Mchengerwa, revealed that the exercise had reached 81.5% of its target.

Speaking in his constituency, Rufiji, on October 20, 2024, Mchengerwa confirmed that a total of 26,769,995 voters had registered by the closing hours of the registration process. Of these, 13,033,988 were men, and 13,736,007 were women.

“Overall, this trend is very promising, and as I have already mentioned, if it continues like this today, the chances of achieving the registration goals will be high,” Mchengerwa stated.

Regions with the highest registration rates include Tanga (101.13% of the target), Pwani (98.74%), Mwanza (94.09%), Dar es Salaam (86.66%), and Dodoma (80.63%)
