President Samia Meets DRC Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, met with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Foreign Minister, Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, at the State House in Dar es Salaam.

According to information from the State House, Foreign Minister Wagner delivered a special message from DRC President Félix Tshisekedi to President Samia. However, no further details about the message have been disclosed by either party.

The DRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that discussions between President Samia and Minister Wagner focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

“For Tanzania, the DRC is and remains a special neighbor and partner,” the DRC Foreign Minister said in an official statement.

Tanzania has long been committed to regional peace efforts in the DRC and has contributed peacekeeping troops through both the United Nations Mission and the regional SADC Mission.

Minister Wagner’s visit to Tanzania followed her trip to Burundi, where she met with President Évariste Ndayishimiye and delivered a message from President Tshisekedi.

Family of Missing CCM Cadre, Daniel Chonchori, Urges Authorities to Ensure His Safe Return

The family of Daniel Chonchori, a member of the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and a member of the party’s Congress, has appealed to President Samia Suluhu Hassan and relevant authorities to assist in ensuring his safe return. Chonchori went missing on March 23, 2025, and his family is desperately seeking answers.

The appeal was made on March 25, 2025, by Chonchori’s sister, Lucy Mlimi, during a press conference in Dar es Salaam. She emphasized the urgency of finding her brother, highlighting his role as a family man and a key supporter of his relatives.

“On March 23, 2025, my younger brother, who resides in Nyakato, Mwanza, went missing. He left home for his routine jogging exercise and never returned,” Lucy said. “That evening, his family reported the matter to the police in Mwanza, but they were told to wait 24 hours for further details. The next morning, the police arrived at the scene to begin their preliminary investigation.”

Before the police could start their probe, the family had already spoken to neighbors. One witness claimed to have seen Chonchori being abducted by unknown individuals.

“A witness reported seeing Chonchori that day, walking while talking on his phone. Shortly after, four men surrounded him. Moments later, a cream-colored Defender with tinted windows arrived, and they forced him into the vehicle,” Lucy recounted.

CHADEMA Women’s Wing Spokesperson Sigrada Mligo Assaulted During Internal Party Meeting in Njombe

An internal meeting of CHADEMA, held on March 25, 2025, in Njombe and chaired by the party’s Vice-Chairperson John Heche, took a violent turn when the party’s women’s wing spokesperson, Sigrada Mligo, was assaulted.

One of the key issues discussed in the meeting was Mligo’s organization of political gatherings in Njombe. While Mligo complained that her meetings were being undermined, others accused her of holding them without following proper procedures.

“Tensions escalated after Mligo expressed frustration over being sidelined in organizing meetings, particularly in Makambako. A misunderstanding arose, leading to her removal from the meeting,” said Faraja Mgimba, CHADEMA’s women’s wing treasurer for the Njombe region, who was present at the meeting.

After the initial disturbance, Mligo was later invited back into the meeting. However, it was at this point that the assault occurred.

“A party security officer, identified as Noel Olevale, punched Mligo, causing her to fall,” said Njombe Regional Police Commander ACP Mahamoud Banga.

Banga added that police officers were present at the scene and attempted to arrest the attacker, but he managed to flee.

“He hit me as I was re-entering the meeting. When I fell, I hit my head,” Mligo recounted.

Since CHADEMA’s internal elections in May 2024, the Njombe region has been plagued by internal conflicts, leading to the suspension of Regional Chairman election last year. The divisions are reportedly fueled by factional disputes within the party.

We Need Tanzania That Thrives Every Day, Not Just During International Events

A few days ago, Tanzania hosted the Africa Energy Summit, a momentous event that brought together leaders, experts, and investors from across the continent to discuss the future of energy.

The summit was not only a platform to showcase Tanzania’s potential in the energy sector but also an opportunity to demonstrate the country’s ability to organise and host international events of such magnitude. In preparation for the summit, significant efforts were made to ensure that the country presented itself in the best possible light. These efforts highlighted Tanzania’s capacity to achieve high standards when focused on a goal.

During the summit, President Samia Suluhu Hassan outlined her country’s key priorities in the energy sector. One major focus is to increase electricity production through a diversified energy mix, aiming to add a significant amount of energy from solar, natural gas, wind, geothermal, and other sources by 2030.

Another critical goal is to leverage Tanzania’s strategic geographic position to connect regional power pools, enabling electricity trade across the region and positioning Tanzania as a key energy exporter. Additionally, efforts are underway to expand electricity access to all sub-villages, having already electrified all villages and a substantial number of sub-villages, with ongoing work to connect the remaining ones.
