Tanzania’s ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has released a comprehensive timetable for the nomination process of candidates ahead of the October general election.
The timetable covers positions including Members of Parliament from constituencies, Zanzibar House of Representatives, Special Seats for Parliament and the House of Representatives, ward councillors, and Special Seats for local government councils.
According to the timetable, internal opinion polls for aspirants vying for parliamentary seats, Zanzibar House of Representatives, and ward councillors will take place on August 4, 2025. These will be followed by meetings of the party’s affiliated organizations to nominate candidates for Special Seats in Parliament, the Zanzibar House of Representatives, and local government councils.
This process is scheduled to conclude with a meeting of CCM’s National Executive Council (NEC) on August 22, 2025, during which the official CCM candidates to contest in the general election will be confirmed.
The nomination process has already commenced, with aspirants having collected nomination forms between June 28 and July 2, 2025. The process is ongoing, and the Central Committee of CCM is set to convene on July 28, 2025, following a postponement from the initially scheduled July 19, 2025 responsible for naming the top three candidates to advance to the party primaries.
