INEC Registers 37.6 Million Tanzanians for October Polls

The number exceeds the population of Tanzanians aged 14 and above recorded in the national census conducted on August 23, 2022.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 37.6 million Tanzanians have been registered in the permanent voters register ahead of the upcoming general election, representing a 26.55 percent increase from the 2020 figure of 29,754,699 registered voters. This was revealed on Saturday, July 26, 2025, by INEC during the launch of an official election calendar.

Interestingly, this number exceeds the population of Tanzanians aged 14 and above recorded in the national census conducted on August 23, 2022.

Speaking during the launch, the Chairperson of INEC, Judge Jaji Jacobs Mwambegele, called on all Tanzanians to actively engage in the electoral process.

“The Commission urges all stakeholders, including citizens, to fully participate in the electoral process while respecting the laws, regulations, guidelines, and directives issued by the Commission. Your vote is your right, come out and vote,” said Judge Mwambegele.

The general election is scheduled for October 29, 2025. The official campaign period will begin on August 28 and end on October 27, 2025.
