Dar es Salaam. The Government of Tanzania has announced that all public servants will work from home on October 30, 2025, following a security alert issued by the Tanzania Police Force.
Government Spokesperson Gerson Msigwa said in a statement shared on his official Instagram page, that only employees whose duties require their physical presence at the workplace are exempted from the directive.
“The decision follows a security advisory issued by the Police Force for residents of Dar es Salaam,” the statement read. “Private sector employers are also encouraged to take note of this advisory and allow their employees to work from home.”
Msigwa further advised members of the public who do not have urgent reasons to leave their homes to carry out their activities indoors as a precautionary measure.
On the evening of October 29, 2025, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Camillus Wambura issued an order prohibiting residents of Dar es Salaam from leaving their homes after 6:00 p.m., following reports of unrest in several parts of the city during the voting exercise.
Reports indicate that demonstrations erupted in various areas of Dar es Salaam and in parts of Mbeya, Arusha, Songwe, and Shinyanga regions.
