Census data shows marriages and divorce have both increase, men are marrying late while women are getting married early. There are over 15,000 recorded child marriages

The census data for the year 2022 shows that marriages have increased from 51.1% of all people of marriageable age from the 2012 census to 51.4% in the 2022 census.

However, the number of people getting divorced has increased from 2.9% recorded in the 2012 census to 3.7% according to the 2022 census. Additionally, the number of people separating has risen from 0.9% to 1.8%. Widowed people increased from 3.1% in the 2012 census to 4.7%.

The 2022 census data shows that men are marrying later than in the past. While in 2002, the average age for men to get married was 25.9 years, and in 2012, the average age was 25.8 years, the 2022 census shows that the average age for men to enter into marriage has increased to 26.4 years.

On the other hand, the age for women to enter into marriage has decreased to 22.1 years from 22.3 years in 2012. This age is higher compared to the 2002 census, where it was 21.1 years.

Another issue observed is the occurrence of child marriages, where more than 15,921 children entered into marriage between the ages of 10 and 14. The majority were girls, around 11,885, while boys who married at that age numbered 4,036.
