According to the Crime and Traffic Incidents Statistics Report, cases of rape and sodomy have continued to rise in Tanzania. In 2022, there were 6,827 reported cases of rape, but this number increased to 8,691 in 2023. Mjini Magharibi is reported to have the highest number of rape incidents followed by Morogoro.

Cases of sodomy also rose from 1,586 reported incidents in 2022 to 2,488 reported incidents in 2023 at various police stations.On the other hand Arusha is reported to have the highest number of sodomy incidents followed by Mjini Magharibi.

There was also an increase of number of children who faced sodomy abuse in the year 2023. A total number of 2382 children were reported as victims, a 53 percent increase of number of victims from 1,555 victims reported 2022, this is the highest number recorded in six years.
