Tundu Lissu revealed on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, that he has received credible information about a plot to harm him and frame CHADEMA Chairperson Freeman Mbowe.Lissu made these remarks while speaking to reporters after collecting his nomination form at the party headquarters.

“The other day, one of the elders of this country, a leader of this nation, was eagerly looking for me. He tried to reach me but couldn’t. Yesterday, I found his messages and managed to contact him,” Lissu told reporters.

“He said to me, ‘Young man, my brother, I’ve been trying to reach you since yesterday. A very senior person from the government, from within, came to me,’” Lissu explained. “That person told this elder, ‘I am asking you to intervene. Plans are being made that will ruin our country and disrupt the peace of our nation. We are asking you to step in in any way you know how.’”

Lissu further elaborated on the conversation: “They told the elder that some individuals within the system are planning to harm Lissu and then frame Mbowe, taking advantage of the ongoing tensions that everyone has seen on social media.”

He added that he has been advised to take strict precautions regarding his safety by strengthening his security measures. Lissu said he has decided to share this information with the public and plans to communicate the same message to all ambassadors in the country in the coming days.

This development amidst heavy interaction inside CHADEMA following Lissu’s announcement of his plan to unseat Mbowe who has been running the party for the past 20 years. On social media, there has been back and forth between some supporters of Lissu and those who support Mbowe.

Lissu’s concerns are not new. In 2017, just days before an assassination attempt, Lissu had publicly claimed that he was being followed by several men who frequently changed vehicles. During a press conference on August 18, 2017, he alleged that these men appeared to be connected to security organs. A few weeks later, Lissu was shot in one of the most heavily guarded neighborhoods in Dodoma.

Lissu has shared the same message about threats on his life on his X page.
