The statement added: “On January 5, 2025, at the Chang’ombe Police Station, a report was received from relatives stating that the abandoned car was being driven by their relative, named Danstan Daud Mtajura.”
Police explained that Mtajura’s relatives had reported his disappearance noting he had not been seen since leaving his home on January 04, 2025. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Danstan Mtajura is widely recognized for his role as a senior state official. On July 18, 2022, he was appointed as the Director of Faru Graphite Corporation by the Treasury Registrar’s office to oversee government shares in the company. Faru Graphite Corporation was established as a joint venture between mining investor Black Rock Mining (84%) and the Tanzanian Government (16%) to develop the Mahenge Graphite Project.
A statement released by Black Rock Mining in July 2022 described Mtajura as a seasoned mining expert.
“Eng. Danstan Mtajura is currently serving as a Mining Analyst and Advisor in the President’s Office and as the Monitoring and Coordinator of All Strategic Government Negotiations Teams, including the Special Presidential Government Negotiations Team (SPGNT),” the statement reads. Various reports indicate that Mtajura has previously served as a government officer at several airports across the country.
Social media reports alleged that Mtajura was abducted while on his way to his office.
“Danstan was abducted today at around 10:00 AM in the Sigara, TANESCO, Buza area,” reads a report that began circulating on the night of January 4, 2025.
The report further claimed that bodaboda riders who witnessed the incident saw Mtajura being forcibly removed from his car. “He had a cloth tied over his face and was heard protesting that he was being abducted,” the report detailed.
The statement also alleged that the abductors were armed and traveling in a white car. A case has been officially registered under reference number RB No. BZA/RB/53/2025 at the Buza Police Station.
