Dar es Salaam – The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced a mixed bag of fuel price adjustments for November, with prices in Dar es Salaam holding steady while other regions will see slight increases. The new prices are effective from November 5, 2025.
In Dar es Salaam, the retail price of petrol will remain at Sh2,752 per litre, and diesel will continue to be sold at Sh2,704 per litre, the same as in October.
Prices will vary across the country depending on the port of entry. In Tanga, petrol will be sold at Sh2,813 and diesel at Sh2,766, while in Mtwara, the prices will be Sh2,844 for petrol and Sh2,797 for diesel.
In the nation’s capital, Dodoma, petrol will be priced at Sh2,831 and diesel at Sh2,783. In the northern city of Arusha, petrol will cost Sh2,861 and diesel Sh2,814. For residents of Mwanza, in the Lake Zone, petrol will be Sh2,937 and diesel Sh2,890. In the southern highlands city of Mbeya, petrol will be sold for Sh2,884 and diesel for Sh2,837.
The announcement comes amidst a period of political tension in Tanzania, following the country’s 2025 general election, which was marred by nationwide protests and an internet shutdown.
The unrest led to significant disruptions, including fuel shortages and price gouging in the informal market, where petrol was reportedly sold for as much as Sh15,000 per litre.
EWURA has mandated that all fuel retailers must adhere to the new prices. The authority has warned that strict legal action will be taken against any person or entity that sells fuel above the capped prices.
Furthermore, all petrol stations are required to display the fuel prices clearly on boards for customers to see. The authority stated that failure to do so is an offence and will attract severe penalties. This measure is intended to promote competition and allow consumers to make informed choices.
In addition to the price display mandate, EWURA has reiterated the requirement for all vendors to issue electronic receipts from ‘Electronic Fiscal Pump Printers’ (EFPP) for all sales.
Customers are also advised to ensure they receive these receipts, which should clearly indicate the name of the station, date, type of fuel, and price per litre.
