Several Bolt drivers marched to the company’s headquarters in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, on Monday, February 2, 2026, protesting high charges and increased customer discounts.
The drivers arrived outside the offices at around 10:00 a.m., but were dispersed by police. Some attempted to seek an audience with the Regional Commissioner.
This marks the second protest by Bolt drivers over the same issue. The first protest took place on October 15, 2024, when drivers gathered outside the Bolt offices in Kinondoni, leading to a subsequent meeting with the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) and representatives from Bolt.

“Customers offers have become an annoyance, the fee will read 10,000 but to the client will read 5,000, this is very challenging,” one of the drivers said.
The discounts offered to customers are normally deducted from Bolt’s commission. However, drivers argue that the practice disrupts the normal flow of business as such offers have become more frequent.
Compared to the October 2024 protest, the number of drivers who reached the Bolt offices this time was much smaller. Some drivers attributed this to challenges in organizing and speaking with one voice among Bolt riders.
The District Commissioner has called for a meeting with the drivers later today, where representatives from LATRA will also be present. The incident comes a day since announcement by Uber to leave the Tanzanian market, practically making Bolt the largest player and the only player with enough muscles to control the market.
