Dodoma– Key officials from the ruling party have revealed the real reason for the expulsion of former vice president Emmanuel Nchimbi from the party, arguing that it was because he didn’t show up for the Ethics Committee summons. Speaking to reporters at the State House in Dodoma on Saturday, August 29, 2026, CCM Youth Wing Chairperson Mohammed Ali Kawaida said the former vice president was expelled because of his arrogance.
“I know many people would like to know what happened, but it was the Central Committee, working together with the NEC, that gave instructions for the former leader to be summoned before the Ethics Committee, and he, out of arrogance, out of failing to see its importance, and out of disregard for the party’s instructions, refused to appear,” Kawaida told reporters.
“That is when the Central Committee, together with the National Executive Committee, resolved to expel him from the party,” he added.
Kawaida was speaking after the ceremony to swear in the new vice president, an event the former vice president also did not attend. The main issue that led to former Vice President Nchimbi’s summons was his public statements, the most recent being a call for Tanzanians to fight for a new constitution.
In his press statement on August 28, 2026, CCM’s Ideology and Publicity Secretary for Zanzibar, Khamisi Mbeto, said that allegations concerning Dr. Nchimbi’s remarks were raised during the National Executive Committee meeting held on July 29, 2026, where he was referred to the Ethics Committee.
“Despite everything, CCM, under its Chairperson Dkt. Samia acted in good faith and insisted he be called before the Ethics and Security Subcommittee to be heard on what are being described as allegations against him,” he said.
“He wasn’t out of the country, nor did he have any difficulty that would have stopped him from going to Dodoma,” Mbeto said. “Dr. Nchimbi was given the opportunity, but regrettably he didn’t take it. Instead, he showed defiance, offered baseless excuses, and disregarded the summons,” Mbeto highlighted in his press release.
