Tanzanian Catholic bishops, through the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), have called for an independent inquiry into the “brutal killings” that followed the October 29, 2025, election day protests.
Reconciliation can proceed without empathy, but it will be shallow and fragile. What appears to be peace may instead be silent trauma.

The 2025 election statistics show this election as one of the elections with the highest voter turnout in the history of Tanzania.
Zungu, who served as Deputy Speaker in the 12th Parliament, was nominated by his party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), and endorsed by its parliamentary caucus. In his acceptance remarks, Zungu emphasized cooperation with the government while upholding fairness and integrity in parliamentary proceedings.
They are students, drivers, mothers, and businessmen. Now, 374 Tanzanians, some as young as 13, are facing charges including treason, armed robbery, and arson.
