Dar es Salaam. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) presidential candidate, is expected to lead a fundraising drive for the ruling party to ensure its successful and effective participation in the October 29, 2025 general election.

CCM secretary-general Emmanuel Nchimbi announced to journalists in Dar es Salaam that the fundraising event will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam.

“The [party’s] central committee decided that we should hold a fundraising drive. This is a fundraising initiative that we plan to conduct [on Tuesday]. Tomorrow is the official fundraising event at Mlimani City Hall, where the guest of honour will be CCM chairperson, President Samia Suluhu Hassan,” Nchimbi, who’s Samia’s running mate, told a press conference.

“So, we have invited you here today to help us inform the public and CCM supporters that tomorrow is the day for all devoted CCM members—those who care deeply about their party and are passionate about seeing our nation progress rapidly under the leadership and stewardship of Chama Cha Mapinduzi—to demonstrate their commitment and strength,” he added.

The CCM Special National Congress on January 19, 2025, endorsed incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan as the party’s presidential candidate for the October 29 general election, with Nchimbi selected as her running mate.

The duo was the first to collect nomination forms from Tanzania’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday, with several opposition parties subsequently following the process as they prepare to challenge President Samia in the October elections.

The opposition parties include the National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA), Alliance for Africa Farmers Party (AAFP), Chama cha Makini, United Peoples’ Democratic Party (UPDP), National League for Democracy (NLD), and Union for Multiparty Democracy (UMD).

In his press conference on Monday, Nchimbi said the party’s baseline fundraising target is Sh100 billion, appealing to CCM members, which he said that until Monday morning totaled at 13.9 million, to participate in the exercise effectively.

“We want all CCM members, wherever they are, to understand this is our objective,” Nchimbi said. “Regarding contributions from other parties – we would warmly welcome participation from all political parties. Frankly, no one needs proof to recognise that CCM serves all Tanzanians alongside other political parties.”

“Election campaigns must be vibrant, and we believe they will be,” he added. “In the electoral process, each party carefully organizes its campaign to ensure success. CCM is not left behind; we are fully engaged in this crucial process.”
