As much as it’s the parliament that decides who is going to be the Speaker, the process has to be tested in the court of public opinion. And this can be done by stakeholders coming out and owning the process on their own terms.
They include the lack of coordination among government’s departments; personal feuds among government officials; corruption that she called “excessive”; the entertainment of the business as usual culture among civil servants; and nepotism in government employment.
Should Tanzania fail to honour its commitments to reforms, and choose to shelve the recommendations made during the Dodoma meeting instead of implementing them, the government should be blamed not on those who chose to participate in the dialogue.
